Publication of the review EEC began in 1993 with a free copy, numbered 0. The first regular issue came out in 1995. Since then, we have published subsequent issues once a year according to our initial plan. There have been 9 issues to date. The cover data - 1 (1995), 2 (1996) etc., indicates year of publication. The periodical always appears between July and September and is in English. In the footnotes titles of works published in other languages (with the exception of French and German) are translated into English.

There is no equivalent to the EEC formula on the academic periodicals market, for the following reasons:

• It is the only periodical dealing with countryside change in Central and Eastern Europe, i.e. those countries which underwent a fundamental system transformation after 1989, abandoning socialism for a democratic system based on the free market economy. The periodical presents both the progress of the process of change in the legislative, organisational, economic and social areas as well as the known and predicted consequences of these changes. For these reasons EEC is on the lookout for authors in different disciplines, not limiting itself to one (e.g. economics or sociology); yet most of its texts are about socio-economic and cultural phenomena in the lives of rural communities undergoing change;



• The circle of authors who publish in EEC includes researchers from various academic centres in Central and Eastern Europe or beyond its borders who deal with the question of change in this region. Every issue contains the authors' academic addresses making it easy to identify their academic background and we include their e-mail addresses. In the articles sources are regularly provided (research, publications), from which authors draw information about analysed events. Placing an article in the columns of an English language periodical such as EEC provides international circulation for research results and academic works generally published only in national languages and thus restricted within the borders of a particular country market.

Starting with the 9th issue, texts are accompanied by short summaries and key-words. Every issue contains a contents page indicating page numbers.

The readership of the periodical whose circulation is 350 copies is relatively wide. It is generally distributed by sales organised by: The Academic Bookshop, Nicolaus Copernicus University, Toruń; Ars Polona Foreign Trade Enterprise; "Co-Liber" Dom Handlowo-Wydawniczy.

The periodical has 11 paying subscribers, but then 19 other copies are sent to all of Poland's university libraries, further copies are diffused as part of an exchange carried out by the Main Library of Nicolaus Copernicus University and the editorial board.
